Within walking distance the local village has a boulangerie, Post Office, bar tabac and small general store.  There is a Super U supermarket about 10 minutes away by car.

SIGHTSEEING Less than an hour's drive away is the lively port of La Rochelle, with its distinctive 3 towers, the museum of the New World, the aquarium with shark tank, and numerous quaint shopping streets and markets.  Boat trips can be made to the Ile de Ré, Aix and Oléron, and Fort Boyard.

Les Clochettes is situated just 10 minutes drive from Royan, a modern resort town, its original buildings having been destroyed during WW2, with a lively nightlife, casinos and beaches.

As well as the town itself, guided tours of the most famous Cognac houses are recommended, including Camus, Hennessy, Martel and Rémy Martin.

Famous as an important town during Roman times, Saintes boasts impressive remains of the architecture of the era including the Arch of Germanicus, the Gallo-Roman amphitheatre, the Roman Baths, as well as the archaeological museum dedicated to Roman Gaul. There also are numerous splendid churches including Saint Eutrope and the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Pierre.

ACTIVITIES - Cycling, swimming, go karting, tennis, golf, water sports, horse riding and fishing are all available in the area.

Walking - there are many signposted walking trails in all directions for all levels - some gentle strolls through farmland with fields of sunflowers, others more strenuous hilly/mountain trails.

Beaches - The area has many beautiful, clean, unspoilt sandy beaches, especially recommended are St. Georges de Didonne and Meschers.

EATING OUT Seafood is the specialty of the area, with numerous waterside restaurants dotted around the small ports of Mortagne and Port Maubert. From Saujon you can travel by steam train (Train des Mouettes) to the port of La Tremblade, famous for its oysters.
