Within walking distance the local village
has a boulangerie, Post Office, bar tabac and small general
store. There is a
Super U supermarket about 10 minutes away by car.

SIGHTSEEING
Less than an hour's drive away is the lively port of La
Rochelle, with its distinctive 3
towers, the museum of the New World, the
aquarium with shark tank, and numerous quaint shopping streets and markets.
Boat trips can be made to the Ile de Ré, Aix and Oléron,
and Fort Boyard.
Les Clochettes is situated just 10 minutes drive from Royan,
a modern resort town, its original buildings having been
destroyed during WW2, with a lively nightlife, casinos and
beaches. As
well as the town itself, guided tours of the most famous Cognac
houses are recommended, including Camus, Hennessy, Martel
and Rémy Martin.
Famous as an important town during Roman times, Saintes
boasts impressive remains of the architecture of the era
including the Arch of Germanicus, the Gallo-Roman
amphitheatre, the Roman Baths, as well as the archaeological
museum dedicated to Roman Gaul. There also are numerous
splendid churches including Saint Eutrope and the Gothic
Cathedral of Saint Pierre.

ACTIVITIES - Cycling,
swimming, go karting, tennis, golf, water sports, horse
riding and fishing are all available in the area.
Walking - there are many signposted walking trails in all
directions for all levels - some gentle strolls through
farmland with fields of sunflowers, others more
strenuous hilly/mountain trails.
Beaches - The area has many beautiful,
clean, unspoilt sandy beaches, especially recommended are
St. Georges de Didonne and Meschers.

EATING OUT
Seafood is the specialty of the
area, with numerous waterside restaurants
dotted around the small ports of Mortagne
and Port Maubert. From Saujon you can
travel by steam train (Train des
Mouettes) to the port of La
Tremblade, famous for its oysters.
